A portal to the imagination
Detroit Month of Design, a vibrant celebration of creativity, brings together designers, businesses, and educational institutions to showcase their latest work. To mark its 10th anniversary, Design Core Detroit partnered with Hook to create a unique AR exhibit that captivates audiences throughout the month-long event.
"Living Decals” is an interactive exhibit using augmented reality to bring Detroit's creativity to life and foster a deeper connection with the community.
TL;DR
We created a Snapchat-based AR design exhibition showcased at Detroit’s annual Month of Design celebration.

Living Decals
Our team developed four engaging interactive decals—Fun Type, Futurism, Doodled World, and Renaissance—activated through Snapchat, showcasing dynamic 3D animations. Strategically positioned across Detroit, a total of 60 decals offered visitors a safe and socially distant way to explore and interact with our creations.

SPOTLIGHT DECAL
Renaissance Interactive Decal
In my role, I spearheaded the art direction and design for the Renaissance interactive decal.
Our goal was to pay homage to the rich history of art while infusing it with a contemporary edge. The concept seamlessly integrates traditional artistic styles with modern influences.
Our design intentionally celebrates the iterative creative process. From initial brainstorming sessions (top right corner), through drafting stages (middle), to the culmination of creation and the final product (bottom left), every step is highlighted.
After initial sketches and rough comping, designs were brought to life using Blender and Snap AR Lens Studio.

Renaissance reign
After 30 days in circulation, our decals garnered significant attention, particularly the Renaissance interactive decal, which boasted the highest engagement with over 1,500 views and 400 plays.
Additionally, our efforts were recognized with a Silver D award at the prestigious 2020 D Show organized by Adcraft Detroit.
